Desigual`s Fall/Winter 2026 campaign stars Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk`s estranged daughter, in an anti-AI statement featuring a malfunctioning robot that critics read as a jab at Musk and Tesla`s Optimus.
Spanish fashion label Desigual has enlisted Vivian Wilson, the estranged daughter of Elon Musk, as the face of its Fall/Winter 2026 campaign, titled "Born to Disobey." The campaign positions the 22-year-old model and transgender rights activist against artificial intelligence, using a malfunctioning humanoid robot as its central visual device.
A robot that refuses to work
The campaign, directed by the trio PSG (Yukihiro "Sho" Shoda, Pau López and Gerardo del Hierro, formerly known as TURBO), follows Wilson as she shares a domestic life with a robot named DESI 84. In the films, the robot mows the lawn and performs household tasks before malfunctioning — falling to the ground after Wilson presses a red button. One clip shows her using the robot as a golf tee, walking it on a leash and trying to teach it to say "Desigual."
The campaign's lines carry the message explicitly: "He was designed to obey. Not me." and "Some things aren't meant to be fixed."
According to a Desigual press release, the campaign aims to "send a clear message: the greatest rebellion is no longer about fighting against the system but about refusing to be part of it. When everything invites you to obey, the answer is attitude, irony and the freedom to be yourself."
Wilson's stated reasons
Wilson told People that taking a stand against AI in fashion mattered to her "because it takes jobs away from talented creatives while being detrimental for the environment."
"Art is emotion through expression," she said. "Since emotion is inherently human, AI takes away any underlying intention and replaces it with plagiarized colors and shapes."
The Musk subtext
While Desigual frames the campaign around technology and conformity, much of the coverage has read it as a pointed reference to Wilson's father. The malfunctioning robot DESI 84 bears a resemblance to Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot, which Musk has marketed heavily. Lines such as "He was designed to obey. Not me" invite interpretation as a personal jab.
Vivian Jenna Wilson was born in 2004 to Musk and his first wife, Justine Wilson. She began her gender transition at 16. On turning 18 in 2022, she petitioned a court to change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson, stating in filings that she no longer wished to be related to her biological father "in any way, shape or form." Musk has since said publicly that he was "tricked into signing documents" over her transition and has described her as "infected by the woke mind virus." Wilson has disputed his account and has spoken about the estrangement in interviews.
The campaign marks another step in Wilson's public career as a model and advocate, overlapping with causes — transgender rights, skepticism of AI — that she has promoted on her own platforms. Desigual, based in Barcelona, has built its identity on colorful, maximalist design; for this collection, the slogan appears directly on a shirt reading "BORN TO DISOBEY."
What remains unconfirmed
Desigual has not stated that the campaign is intended as a personal statement about Musk, and Wilson has not framed her participation that way. The parallel between DESI 84 and Tesla's Optimus robot is a widely noted observation rather than a confirmed creative intent. Musk has not commented publicly on the campaign.
